New Directions: Each month SUMC volunteers prepare and serve an evening meal to people seeking assistance at the New Directions Homeless Shelter located at 1005 Osceola Street in Myrtle Beach.

Dan Lee Prison Ministry Thanksgiving Dinner: This is an annual mission that provides a full Thanksgiving meal for the inmates of the Georgetown County Detention Center. All food items are donated and transported to GCDC by volunteers.

Blessing Box: This mission provides food and daily necessities for anyone in need. Church and community members place staple food items, toiletries, cleaning supplies, etc. Notecards are provided for individuals to submit prayer requests to the Sunday vespers service.

Quarterly Clothing Drive: Gently used or new clothing is collected and delivered to Help4Kids on Forestbrook Road. Clothing for both children and adults is needed.

Mommy and Me: This program provides monthly opportunities for mothers of preschool children to gather for playground time, crafts, snacks, and games. It gives little ones and moms a chance to bond with each other and make new friends.

Angel Tree: Plantation Apartments is a local HUD neighborhood located off Socastee Boulevard. Each Christmas the people of SUMC provide gifts for children of Plantation Apartments whose families need some extra support during the holidays.

Homework Helpers: Twice weekly SUMC volunteers provide encouragement and assistance with homework/reading for elementary and middle school students who live at Plantation Apartments.

Little Free Book Fairs: This literacy mission provides free children’s books for Socastee schools attendance area children. New or gently used books are collected from various sources and are placed in book fair racks located throughout the community. This thriving mission put approximately 8,500 books into the hands of Socastee children in 2022 and works closely with Socastee Elementary School, Freedom Readers, and Horry County Libraries. Saturday Night Live: This once a month event is Bible school on a Saturday night! Volunteers provide dinner, Bible lesson, games, and tons of fun for kids ages 5-10. SNL meets in the fellowship hall from 6:00-8:00 p.m. on the second Saturday each month during the school year.

Vacation Bible School: This weeklong summer program teaches the Bible through story, music, games, crafts, and treats. The theme varies from year to year but is always a rollicking good time learning to follow Jesus. All children ages 3 through fifth grade are invited to VBS. Contact: Lindsay Jackson
Harvest Sunday Food Drive: On the Sunday before Thanksgiving, the missions committee conducts a food drive to support the Socastee Food Pantry and Help4Kids.
Back-to-School Supplies Drive: During the month of July, congregants donate toward the purchase of backpacks and materials from the Horry County Schools grade-level supplies lists. Filled backpacks are provided for all Plantation Apartments school-age children n need so they are prepared on the first day of school. Contact: Jan Terrell
Dan Lee Prison Ministries
The Dan Lee Prison Ministry is currently having a Bible Conversations Class at the Georgetown County Detention Center every Wednesday from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM. If you are interested, please contact Johnny Livingston at (843) 222-2538. Annual certification and a SLED background check is required. We have two training sessions on Thursday, August 8, for anyone interested in assisting with this vital Christian ministry.
